why are the reservation and ticket fees so high with my global pass?

hello - i have recently bought 2 global passes on behalf of elderly friends who are going on a trip of a lifetime in september. when we have tried to make seat reservations, we have found the booking fees very high, and sometimes a message that a fare class isn't available and we have to buy regular tickets as well. i also can not find a way to purchase overnight twin berths or couchettes on some of the longer journeys. please help us.

the ladies want to travel as below -

amsterdam to paris - 6 sept

paris to Zürich - 8 sept

Zürich to prague - 10 sept sleeper train

prague to krakow - 13 sept sleeper train

krakow to vienna - 16 sept sleeper train

vienna to venice - 18 sept sleeper train

venice to milan - 22 sept

milan to bologna - 26 sept

bologna to florence - 28 sept

florence to siena - 1 oct

siena to rome - 2 oct

have i made a mistake in purchasing a global pass for the ladies? do i need to reserve the journeys within italy as they cost 17 euros each time, per person.

please advise. i am very worried i have made a mistake...

Dear Laura,

Thank you for your question.

As per your travel plan the best product for your travel would be Eurail Global Pass.

The Eurail Global Pass offers you unlimited travel on the national rail networks of 28 European countries.

Passes can be purchased up to 11 months before your first day of travel. The pass must be validated within 11 months from the original date of issue.

All cross-border trains, night trains, scenic trains and high speed trains will require reservations.

However with a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares)

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "seat reservation' & then select name of pass from the list, then feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

In order to book a pass, please visit our website.

Hope this helps!!!

Aamir, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
