Dear Diana,

Thanks for the question.

As per your Itinerary, below are sectors which require seat reservations and which do not require seat reservations.

- Paris to Lucerne via Basel:

Paris to Basel - Compulsory seat reservations.

Basel to Lucerne - Intercity train - Seat reservations not required.

- Lucerne to Brienz - Intercity train - Seat reservations not required.

- Brienz to Pilatus:

Brienz to Lucerne - Intercity train. Seat reservations not required. You can follow the below route from Lucerne onwards to Mt Pilatus.

The route to Mt Pilatus is as follows:

Your travel will be as follows: Zurich - Lucerne - Kriens - Mount Pilatus.

Lucerne - Kriens : Bus, has to be booked locally.

Kriens - Mount Pilatus : Mountain Train, tickets have to be booked locally.

You can also travel as follows :

Zurich - Lucerne - Alpnachstad - Mount Pilatus.

Lucerne - Alpnachstad : Regional train, can travel with the Pass.

Alpnachstad - Mount Pilatus : Mountain Train, tickets have to be booked locally.

- Lucerne to Interlaken - Golden Pass Line Train - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Interlaken to Grindelwald - Seat reservations not required.

- Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen - Seat reservations not required.

- Interlaken to Zermatt - Seat reservations not required.

- Zermatt to Lugano - Seat reservations not required.

- Lugano to Pisa - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Pisa to Rome - Seat reservations is not required only on Regional Veloce train. Seat reservations are mandatory on all other trains.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
