Switzerland-Austria Journey Advice

This is my first time travelling in Europe & would like some advice on which is/are the best passes or tickets during the periods from 11th March to 23rd March 2018.

During this period I'm going the following destinations.

  1. Geneva to Grindelwald
  2. Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch (Return Trip)
  3. Grindelwald to Zürich
  4. Zürich to Lucerne (Return Trip)
  5. Zürich to Innsbruck
  6. Innsbruck to Salzburg
  7. Salzburg to Hallstatt (Return Trip)
  8. Salzburg to Vienna

I'm still torn on the passes between 5 days within 2 months or perhaps 8 days within 2 months. Do the return trips counted as a day? Do the tickets to Grindelwald & Jungfraujoch have to be purchase separately?

Please revert & I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Hello Keng,

Thanks for the question.

As per your Itinerary you can purchase Eurail Austria - Switzerland Pass for your travel.

To purchase the Pass click "Here".

A travel day is from 12:00 am to 23:59 pm during which you can take as many trips you wish.

You can select the validity in your Pass depending on your Itinerary and travel date.

The route to Jungfraujoch is as follows:

Interlaken – Grindelwald/ Lauterbrunnen – Jungfraujoch.

Interlaken – Grindelwald/ Lauterbrunnen : Free with the Pass

Grindelwald/ Lauterbrunnen– Jungfraujoch : Mountain Train/Cable Car ride, has to be booked locally. You will get a discount with the Pass.

You do not have to purchase separate ticket for travel to Jungfraujoch as you will receive discount with the Pass.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will receive pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

Kindly note that pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "I have a rail Pass" on the home page of our website under "Book Train tickets" & then select the name of the pass and feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on "Search". Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Hope this helps!!!

Kind Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
