Swiss Travel Pass or 2 Country Eurail Pass for Switzerland & Italy trip.

We are traveling to Switzerland from 16th May-23rd May and from 23rd May-29th May in Italy. We are confused whether we should buy a Swiss Travel Pass or a Eurail two country pass. We plan to go to Schilthorn, Mt. Titlis, Jungfrau and Zermatt. We will fly to Rome from Zurich on 23rd May and take a train to Naples and back from Naples to Rome on 28th May.

What is the difference between Swiss Travel Pass and Eurail 2 country pass?

Does it make sense to buy just the Swiss Travel Pass since we are extensively using the train network during our stay in Switzerland? The only train journey we take is from Rome-Naples-Rome. Or should we opt for Swiss Half Fare Pass?

I will be grateful if you could help me decide the best pass I could buy.

Thank you so much.

Hello,

Thanks for the question.

As you are extensively travelling in Switzerland and taking a flight to Rome, it is best to purchase Swiss Travel Pass for your travel in Switzerland.

Swiss Pass Details –

Children below 16 years are free if accompanied by the at least one parent having a Swiss Pass. We issue a Swiss family card for children.

With a Swiss Travel Pass you can travel free within Switzerland on the STS (Swiss Travel System) network on trains, buses and boats. Also with a Swiss Pass you would get discounts on mountain excursions within Switzerland. These discounts can only be availed locally by showing your Swiss Pass to the ticketing office in Switzerland.

You will need seat reservation for travel on scenic train which costs extra. On mountain trains and cable cars you will receive upto 50% discount on purchase. Rest all trains, buses and boats within Switzerland you can travel free with the pass, however the travel is counted in the day of the pass.

To purchase the pass click "Here".

Seat reservation for scenic trains can be done by following the below procedure:

Kindly note that pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "I have a rail Pass" on the home page of our website under "Book Train tickets" & then select the name of the pass and feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on "Search". Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

For your travel from Rome to Naples and back to Rome you can purchase point to point tickets:

In order to book tickets, please visit our website.

You would need to feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares. You need to select the fare which is preferable to you and then add it to Cart. Once added, you need to mention the names of the passengers to make the payment on the next page.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Amar, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
