Swiss Travel Pass or 1 month Half-fare card?

Hi, I am

planning to travel to Switzerland with my friend. Below are the 3 itineraries I

am considering. Based on these, could you let me know the cheapest option for

second class train/cable car travel for each of the itineraries – buying a 1

month Half-fare card or a Swiss Travel Pass? If you recommend Swiss Travel

Pass, then which option makes most sense - 8 day consecutive, or 8 days flexi,

or 15 days consecutive pass?

Thank you

very much for your help in advance.

Hello Sam,

Thanks for the question.

We do not suggest in cities or itinerary to travel. However for all the itineraries provided, Swiss Travel Pass will be beneficial.

To purchase the pass click "Here".

Swiss Pass Details –

Children below 16 years are free if accompanied by the at least one parent having a Swiss Pass. We issue a Swiss family card for children.

With a Swiss Travel Pass you can travel free within Switzerland on the STS (Swiss Travel System) network on trains, buses and boats. Also with a Swiss Pass you would get discounts on mountain excursions within Switzerland. These discounts can only be availed locally by showing your Swiss Pass to the ticketing office in Switzerland.

You will need seat reservation for travel on scenic train which costs extra. On mountain trains and cable cars you will receive upto 50% discount on purchase. Rest all trains, buses and boats within Switzerland you can travel free with the pass, however the travel is counted in the day of the pass.

Swiss Family card if for children upto age 16 which provides them free travel with the adult holding Swiss Travel Pass.

To get the Swiss Family card you can add in the number of children in "Child in Family Card" while adding number of adults.

Seat Reservation for Scenic train can be booked as below:

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Amar, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
