Surcharge on German Rail Pass

The staff from your office told me that the holder of German Rail Pass would have to pay a surcharge on German High Speed Train such as ICE, IC or EC. However I noted from the website the German Rail Pass exempts the holder from paying a surcharge on German High Speed and quality trains except ICE Sprinter. Please advise which one is correct. Thank you.

Hello Thomas,

Thanks for your question.

Please note that with a German Rail Pass you can travel free on an ICE trains.

However reservations are mandatory for ICE Sprinter trains which can be done locally.

Hope this helps.
