Struggle between Austria-Switzerland Pass or Swiss Pass for 11 days travel

Hello,

Would like to seek for some train experts' advice here as I will be traveling in Austria and Switzerland in Easter and struggling if I should get an Austria-Switzerland pass or Swiss Pass on the route below. Feel free to comment anything :)

  1. Vienna to Salzburg
  2. Salzburg (Hallstatt)
  3. Salzburg (Königssee)
  4. Salzburg to Zurich
  5. Zurich to St Moritz
  6. St Moritz to Zermatt via Glacier Express
  7. Zermatt to Interlaken
  8. Jungfraujoch
  9. Interlaken to Zurich

There are 6 days which we will take trains (in bold), which pass sounds more suitable for me? If Austria-Switzerland Pass, shall I get a 6-days pass or can buy a single ticket for short distance journey? I will have to take care of an extra cost for trains to Matterhorn and Jungfraujoch around 200CHF. If I get a 8-days Swiss Pass, I need to pay for the train costs in Austria and Salzburg-Zurich.

Thanks a lot!

6 days Austria-Switzerland Pass: $402 USD (20%off to order before 31 Dec)

5 days Austria-Switzerland Pass: $365 USD (20%off to order before 31 Dec)

8 days Swiss Pass: 376CHF

Hello Chan,

Thanks for the question.

We compared the price of 1. Swiss Travel Pass for travel within Switzerland and point to point ticket for travel within Austria and 2. Eurail Austria - Switzerland Pass along with seat reservations and we found that Eurail Austria - Switzerland Pass along with seat reservations is economical for your travel.

To purchase the Pass click "Here".

With a Pass, seat reservation is not mandatory on Railjet train. However, if you wish to purchase seat reservations, you can.

As you stated that you will be traveling by train to the above 6 sectors (in bold), you can purchase 6 days within 2 months Pass. However, as you wish to travel to Jungfraujoch as well, you will need to travel with a valid Pass.

As there is no 7 days within 2 months Pass, you can select 6 days within 2 months validity and purchase point to point ticket for 1 train travel of your choice and use your Pass for travel to Jungfraujoch as you will receive discount with a Pass.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will receive pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

Kindly note that pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "I have a rail Pass" on the home page of our website under "Book Train tickets" & then select the name of the pass and feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on "Search". Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Hope this helps!!!

Kind Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
