seat reservation prices too high

i tried to reserve 2nd class seats from bordeaux to barcelona on 6th July based on having a France-Spain pass but it says price was over 260 euros for some of the trains. Whats the point in having a pass if reservation cost is same as ticket price?

Hello Dan,

Thanks for your question.

Book for seat reservations as follows:

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations“ & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks Anthony. i understand process of booking reservation, that how i saw the prices were 260 euros for a seat reservation. The problem i have is that im already paying 260 euros for my france-spain pass yet i might be required to pay the same amount again. Is there any way to avoid reservation fees or are they essential? How often to trains get fully booked? How do i find trains which have cheaper seat reservation prices?

additionally, im trying to book a seat from paris to toulouse on 3rd July but when i search in the "search reservations", it provides no results. Why does it give me no results? Does that mean i cant travel that day/route because trains are full? This seems crazy... why buy a pass when i cant even use it? Is there someone i can speak to over the phone to find out why this seat is not available?

Hello Dan,

Thanks for your reply.

Since you’ve purchased the pass, the reservation fee is considerably less. Unfortunately cannot comment of fares but I would request you to check for fares without the pass, and then compare it with the pass. The pass would be most suitable for multiple journeys within each country. You would need mandatory reservations for the cross border journey, i.e. from Narbonne to Barcelona. The pass would cover your journey from Bordeaux to Narbonne.

This issues is because there seems to be a fare filtration issue on the website. We will check with the concerned team to fix this issue. Until then, while booking reservations under the “Select your Pass” tab, rather than actually selecting your Eurail Pass I request that you to keep it as it is and search for schedules.

Hope this helps!!!
