Reservation required after taking rail pass and what's the cost of reservation?

We want to visit Italy from 28th oct to 7th nov and would like to travek by train from rome to naples, naples to sorrento and return, naples to amalphi coast and return, naples to rome, rome to florance, florance to venice, venice to milan. Should we purchase a rail pass? if yes will we need further reservations? If yes, what will be additional cost of reservations? My kids are of 4 and 8 years, so will we have to pay for their pass too?

Hello Ravi,

Thanks for the question.

As you are traveling extensively in Italy it is best to purchase Eurail Italy Pass for your travel.

To purchase Eurail Italy Pass click “Here”.

As there are no train stations to Sorrento and Amalfi Coast the closest train station is Salerno from where you will have to travel by public transport.

Children from 4 to 11 travel for free. As a rail pass will still be issued for them, please make sure you include them in your booking. For guaranteed seats on board high speed and night trains, please remember to book a seat for you and your children.

As fares are dynamic and subject to change, we unfortunately, cannot give fare quotations. All available fares are displayed on our website. It would be best if you check directly on our website.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass.

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
