Recommendation on Eurail Pass

Hi there,

Myself and a friend are intending to travel to Europe in 2018 as per the following itinerary below and we have the following questions to ask:

Munich > Berlin > Prague > Krakow > Vienna > Budapest > Zagreb > Ljubljana > Salzburg

1. Based on the itinerary above, would it be advisable to get a Eurail Global Pass for 15 days? If not, what will be recommended?

2. If we do get the Eurail Global Pass for 15 days, will it be right to say that we still have to specify the specific country to country destination under the pass? How does this work?

3. As we intend to do a sleep over on the train, how much does the reservation cost? Is this a additional cost on top of the Eurail Global Pass (15 Consecutive days)

4. One of us will be 28 in 2018, and the other 27, does this mean that we will have to travel 1st class indefinitely? Or do we still have the option to choose 2nd Class? How do we go about purchasing the tickets as I understand that there are youth discounts up till age 27?

5. Regardless of the type of rail passes purchased, none of it can be used on domestic metro lines?

Thanks in advance

Hi Hong Sheng Ng,

Thanks for the question.

As you will be traveling extensively, you can purchase Eurail Global Pass for your travel.

To purchase the Pass click "Here".

1. You will need to select the validity in your Pass depending on your Itinerary and travel date.

A travel day is from 12:00 am to 23:59 pm during which you can take as many trips as you wish.

2. With a Eurail Global Pass, you can travel to 28 countries within Europe. Hence you do not have to specify the countries you will be traveling to. You can check the countries on the Pass page under "Overview".

3. Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will receive pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

4. Youth age is from 12 to 27 years. Hence 27 year old passenger can purchase Youth Pass and 28 year old passenger can purchase Adult Pass. Please note, 2nd class fare is only available for Youth Pass and not for Adult Pass.

With a 1st class Pass you can travel in 1st class and 2nd class. However, with a 2nd class Pass you can only travel in 2nd class.

If you wish to receive "Saver discount" which is for 2 to 5 adult passengers traveling together, you can purchase 2 Adult Passes if both the passengers will be traveling together at all time. You can compare the price of 1 Adult Pass - 1 Youth Pass and 2 Adult Passes with Saver Pass and see the difference in price and you can book accordingly.

5. Metro travel and public transport is not included in the Eurail Pass. You can check under "Benefits" section on the Pass page to view the additional benefits offered with the Pass.

Kindly note that pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "I have a rail Pass" on the home page of our website under "Book Train tickets" & then select the name of the pass and feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on "Search". Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Hope this helps!!!

Kind Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
