Questions on travelling around Poland

I and two friends plan to travel around Poland next month. Here is our tentative itinerary by train:

Warsaw - Czestochowa - Krakow - Zakopane - Krakow - Wroclaw (optional) - Warsaw

1) Does the Eurail Poland Pass cover all these destinations along the planned route?

2) If so, will it be cheaper to get a 5-day Rail Pass or should I stick to getting point-to-point tickets for each destination?

3) Do all of the said destinations have direct train connections and if so, can I book them with the Rail Pass?

4) Do I need to pre-reserve a date and seat before boarding the train or can I decide to use each of the 5 days in the pass on the day of journey.

Any advice and help is greatly appreciated as it'll be our first time in Poland :)

Hello Yee Ping Chen,

Thanks for your question.

The Eurail Poland Pass is the most comprehensive way to explore Poland.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains.

Your travel will be as follows –

Warsaw to Czestochowa via Krakow – Bookable on the website. (Passholder Fares)

Czestochowa to Krakow – Bookable on the website. (Passholder Fares)

Krakow to Zakopane – Bookable on the website. (Passholder Fares)

Zakopane to Krakow – Bookable on the website. (Passholder Fares)

Krakow to Wroclaw : You will have to book locally. (Passholder Fares)

Wroclaw Glowny to Warsaw – Eurocites Train (Passholder Fares)

The number of days to choose depends on the number of days you will be traveling, so I won’t be able to comment on the same.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations” and feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

It will be advisable for you to plan and book prior to your travel so as to enjoy hassle free journey.

Hope this helps!!!

Hi Isha

Thank you for your advice. Just to clarify further:

1) Do I immediately book the dates and seats when I purchase the Rail Pass on the same website?

2) What does Passholder Fares mean? The Rail Pass fee already pre-covers both the train tickets and seat reservations, right?

3) Krakow to Wroclaw I have to book locally, meaning I can't do it on your Rail Europe website? Can I book seats at the station itself before travelling?

4) Wroclaw to Warsaw, you mentioned Eurocities Train meaning I still book the seats on your website?

5) Once I've booked the dates of travel and seats, can I change them at any point?

Thank you for bearing with all my questions as it can be really confusing at times for me being a first-timer.

Hi Isha

Thank you for your helpful reply. One more question.

I would like to use the Rail pass and take the train from Zakopane - Krakow - Warsaw on the same day.

Is that doable and advisable? If yes, how many hours journey in total will that take?
