question regarding Spain EU Rail Pass

I'm currently residing in EU and my friends (non EU-residents) are intending to visit Spain

we are intending to visit multiple cities in Spain and are currently looking for the best options available.

I understand that EU pass / Inter EU rail pass

are essentially the same... but I will like to ask the following question(s) to understand this better.

1) do we need to reserve seats before hand for train travelling from one city to another in the same country ? e.g (Barcelona to Granada)

2) does this pass covers inter-city transport like the Barcelona Pass ? or it is strictly just for the rail between cities? (i'm guessing its the latter)

please advise.

Hello David,

Thanks for the question.

If you are residing in Europe for more than 6 months you will need to purchase Interrail Pass. As your friends are non European citizens, they can purchase Eurail Spain Pass on the website.

To purchase Eurail Spain Pass click "Here".

Yes, it is advised to reserve seats prior your travel on the website in order to avail confirmed seats as seat reservations purchased locally at the train station are subject to availability.

With a Eurail Spain Pass, local transport is not included. The Pass is valid for travel from one city to another city itself.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare,

type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
