Hello Conrad,

Thanks for your question.

As you are travelling extensively in France, I would suggest you to purchase a France Rail Pass. With a France Rail Pass you can travel unlimited travel on the national rail network of France.

All trains that travel internationally, night trains, scenic trains and high speed trains will require reservations. Please note that reservation as per your travel sectors can be booked only 3 months in advance.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking here & then feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

You would have to travel as follows:

Paris CDG to Saint Lazare – Bus and Regional train. book this sector locally

Paris St Lazare to Bayeux – Corail Intercity train. However most trains are via Caen

Bayeux to Caen – TER train

Caen to Rennes via Le Mans – Intercity and TGV Atlantique train

Rennes to St Malo – TER/ TGV train

St Malo to Paris Montparnasse - TGV Atlantique train

Paris Montparnasse to Paris La Defense Station- travel locally

Paris La Defense Station to Paris Montparnasse - travel locally

Paris Montparnasse to Blois via Saint-Pierre-des-Corps - TGV Atlantique and TER train

Blois to Paris CDG Airport 2 TGV via Saint-Pierre-des-Corps – TER and TGV train

Hope this helps.

Hello Aamir,

Thank you very much for your quick and expert advice.

I have decided to change my plans and rather travel to Caens in stead of Bayeux.

I think this will make it a bit easier.

I have 4 more questions:

  1. If I buy the French Rail Pass on the website does it get delivered to my physical address in South Africa?
  2. Can I then use it on all trains e.g. intercity, regional, metro and underground?
  3. Do I first buy the Rail Pass on the website and wait for it to be delivered and then do my bookings and reservations online?
  4. Where can I find train time tables/schedules for the long distance travel?
Thank you in advance

Regards

Conrad
