Italy + Switzerland (Eurail 2 country select)

Hi I'm looking to visit Italy + Switzerland.

My transport routes are:

1) Travel between Rome, Florence, Venice and Milan

2) Milan to Zurich (via Tirano, Bernina Express, and Chur)

3) Zurich to Grindelwald (via Interlaken)

I'm more concerned with routes 2 and 3.

For the Eurail 2 country select pass, does it cover these routes?

Especially for the Switzerland leg, it seems like not all routes are covered and reservation fees are higher.

Thanks.

Hello Linda,

Thanks for the question.

As per the above itinerary you can purchase the Eurail 2 country Pass for Switzerland and Italy.

To purchase the pass click "Here".

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass.

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

You can book the below seat reservation:

- Rome to Florence to Venice to Milan - seat reservation is mandatory.

- Milan to Zurch the pass is valid for the travel.

Milan to Tirano on "Regionale" trains you can travel free with the pass. Tirano to Chur - Bernina Express seat reservation is required with the pass and Chur to Zurich you can travel free with the pass.

- Zurich to Grindelwald is via Bern, Interlaken which you can travel free with the pass.

Hope this helps!!

Best Regards,

Amar, Rail Europe Travel Expert.

Looking up the rail coverage map, I thought the section from Interlaken to Grindelwald is not covered? And the rail company Berner Oberland Bahn is not listed as a train partner. Am I missing something here?

Going through the booking system as well, it seems like not all trains are available for the Bern to Interlaken route as well.

Thanks.

Hello Linda,

There are regional trains from Interlaken to Grindelwald which you can travel free with the pass. If you wish to travel on Brener Oberland Bahn from Interlaken to Grindelwald then you can use the pass as you will receive discount on the ticket purchase locally at Interlaken.

Bern to Interlaken - Intercity trains you can travel free with the pass. Hence you can board the train and take any available seat.

Hi Amar, thanks.

I should be getting the Eurail pass. May I know which regional trains travel from Interlaken to Grindelwald? I am unable to distinguish which are the ones that you can utilize your Eurail pass and which you cant.

Thanks.

Hi, I just purchased a 8 day Eurail pass. Could the rail europe travel expert confirm which regional trains are covered from Interlaken to Grindelwald? Looking up the train station websites/google there does not seem to be any trains valid under Eurail.

Thanks.
