Hello Tiffany,

Thanks for your reply.

Below are the sectors that require seat reservations and which are free seating with the Pass.

- Paris to Amsterdam - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Amsterdam to Berlin - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Berlin to Munich - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Munich to Nice - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Nice to Venice - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Venice to Pisa - There are trains with 1 connection at Florence. Venice to Florence sector requires compulsory seat reservation and there are Regionale and Regionale Veloce trains from Florence to Pisa which do not require seat reservation as it is free seating.

- Pisa to Florence - Free seating.

- Florence to Rome - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Rome to Sicily - Compulsory seat reservations.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will receive pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

Kindly note that pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "I have a rail Pass" on the home page of our website under "Book Train tickets" & then select the name of the pass and feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on "Search". Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Hope this helps!!!

Kind Regards,

My pass is "Eurail Select Pass 4 countries".

However, it seems that there is no this selection for the reservation.

Should I select "Eurail Select Pass 3 countries" for the reservation?

Thanks.

Hi Tiffany,

Thanks for your reply.

Night train is available on the following routes:

- Amsterdam to Berlin

- Berlin to Munich

- Nice to Venice

- Rome to Palermo (city in Sicily)

As you have Eurail Select Pass 4 countries, you will need to select "Eurail Select Pass" while purchasing seat reservations.

Hope this helps!!!

Hello Tiffany,

Thanks for the reply.

Most of the route you are travelling is high speed and border crossing train route hence the seat reservation are mandatory except for Florence to Pisa and return route on Regionale trains and for Berlin to Munich on ICE trains.

Seat reservations fares are usually fixed fare. Hence you can book any time however note that the pass and seat reservations are paper ticket and will be delivered to your address in 8 business days.

Kind Regards,

Thanks. So, how can I reserve the bed for the night trains?

And I forgot to mention our itinerary on 19/6 is from Rome to Catania (city in Sicily)

And later we will go from Catania to Palermo.

Does it require to reserve seats for these two sectors? And are these two sectors requiring us to take night trains?

Hello Tiffany,

Thanks for the reply.

There is Night train only for Rome to Catania.

- Rome to Catania - seat reservation is required.

- Catania to Palermo - On Regionale trains no seat reservation is required.

Once you search on the website under seat reservation, you can click on the "Fare Details" tab to get the details of seat or beds available. If sleeper beds are provided you can book on the website.

For the night trains, there are (Day+1) at such times.

In what way I take the train the pass will count just 1 day?

1. What is the difference of 1st class and 2nd class? Does it depend on the type of trains?

2. As you mentioned there are 4 night trains on the following routes for my itinerary, how can I know it is a night train? I found that there are different types of trains.

- Amsterdam to Berlin

- Berlin to Munich

- Nice to Venice

- Rome to Catania

3. Are there any sleeping classes for night train?

4. We have 4 people and how can we reserve the beds in a same room?

Hi Tiffany,

With reference to the screenshot provided, the Fare details tab states "Couchette T4 Pass" which is 4 bed sleeper cabin. Pass is the seat reservation fare. Hence you can purchase seat reservations for your sector.

7 Pm rule:

If a direct overnight train starts after 7:00 p.m. and arrives after 4:00 a.m. on a validated Eurail Pass, the pass holder must enter the next day’s date on the pass, provided it falls within the validity of the pass.

If an overnight train starts before 7:00 p.m. on a validated Eurail Pass, the Pass holder has to fill in two days on the pass: the starting day’s date AND the arrival day’s date on the pass, provided it falls within the validity of the pass.

The major difference is the comfort zone. First class is more comfortable than second class. In 1st class, there is more space than in 2nd class, both in terms of legroom and storage space for your luggage. The seats are more comfortable, and compartments are usually less crowded than in 2nd class.

If you have a First class Pass, you can travel on both 1st class and 2nd class. However, if you have a 2nd class Pass, you can only travel in 2nd class.

To know if a train is a night train, kindly check the departure and arrival time. It will state Day+1 which is a night train.

To view if there are beds for night train, please click on the “Fare Details” tab which is next to "Select fare" to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Please note that seats are auto-allocated by train carriers. Passenger cannot choose seats.

Depending on availability, carriers will ensure that all passengers of a same party are seated together. However if passengers are not seated together, seats can be swapped only once on-board, depending on availability.

Hope this helps!!!

Kind Regards,

Thank you for the detailed replies. I still have some confusions.

I will take the train from Venice to Florence on 14 June.

Will the train frequency be updated soon? Since I found that the train from Venice to Florence should take about 2 hours, and there is only 1 timeslot with 9 hours on 14 June.

Also, when will the following sections opened for reservation?

29/5 Paris to Amsterdam

17/6 Florence → Rome

18/6 Rome → Catania

Does it require to reserve seats for the following sections?

1. Pisa to Viareggio

2. Syracuse to Catania

3. Catania to Taormina

4. Taormina to Cefalu

5. Cefalu to Palermo

And there are best fares and flexible fares. What is the difference?

Thank you.

Hello Tiffany,

Thanks for your reply.

The total travel time from Venice to Florence sector is approximately 1h 53m. You can check the schedule for this sector in February.

The booking horizon is as below:

- Paris to Amsterdam - 3 months prior your train departure date.

- Italy sectors - 4 months prior your train departure date.

Best fares are non refundable, non exchangeable and Flexible fares are uaually refundable. However, the precise After Sales Policy is mentioned on the Fare details tab.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab which is next to "Select fare" to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!
