Hello Wai,

Thanks for the question.

With a Eurail Global Pass you can travel from Hallstatt to Interlaken and Interlaken to Paris however you will need to purchase seat reservations for the same.

Kindly let us know if you will be traveling to any other cities or if you will be only traveling to the ones provided above so that we can assist you with the best rail product for your travel.

Awaiting your reply.

Kind Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.

Hello Wai,

Thanks for your reply.

As per your itinerary, Eurail Select Pass 3 countries with Austria, Switzerland, France is advised for your travel.

To purchase the Pass click "Here".

As there are no direct trains from Hallstatt to Interlaken hence you will need to break and book as below:

- Hallstatt to Salzburg via Attnang-Puchheim - Regional Express train and WESTbahn - Seat reservation not mandatory but recommended with a Pass.

- Salzburg to Zurich - Compulsory seat reservations.

- Zurich to Interlaken via Bern - Free seating with a Pass.

For your travel from Interlaken to Paris, you can break and book as below and travel.

- Interlaken to Basel - Free seating with a Pass.

- Basel to Paris: There are direct TGV Lyria trains on this route which requires compulsory seat reservations. There are trains with 1 connection at Strasbourg as well on this route hence kindly note the below:

- Basel to Strasbourg - TER train - Free seating with a Pass.

- Strasbourg to Paris - TGV train - Compulsory seat reservations.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will receive pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

Kindly note that pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "I have a rail Pass" on the home page of our website under "Book Train tickets" & then select the name of the pass and feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on "Search". Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Hope this helps!!!

Kind Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.

Hello Wai,

Thanks for your reply.

Kindly follow the below procedure to purchase seat reservations:

Please note that pass does have additional expenditure at times, as only Intercity trains run by national railways can be boarded with the pass. When it comes to high-speed trains, scenic trains, night trains and trains crossing the countries (borders), reservations are mandatory and these reservations coast extra (Over and above the pass fares as pass does not include any reservations).

Hello Wai,

For the trains where seat reservation is Compulsory, you will need to purchase mandatory seat reservations on those trains.

For the trains that are Free seating with a Pass, you do not have to purchase seat reservations as you can travel with the Pass and board the train as it is a free seating train. The route is below:

Zurich to Interlaken via Bern, Interlaken to Basel, Basel to Strasbourg.

The below route is where seat reservation is compulsory with a Pass.

- Salzburg to Zurich, Basel to Paris (direct TGV train) and Strasbourg to Paris.

The below route is where seat reservation is not mandatory but highly recommended being peak season. Hence we advise to purchase seat reservations on this route.

- Hallstatt to Salzburg via Attnang-Puchheim

Seat reservations are at a discounted price with a Pass which will cost extra.

Please note the below details:

France

TER train – Free seating.

TGV and Intercites trains - Compulsory seat reservations

Austria

Within Austria seat reservation is not mandatory but recommended on Railjet train and Regional Express trains. You will require seat reservations on all other trains.

Switzerland

Within Switzerland, you can travel on all the trains except scenic trains where seat reservation is mandatory. You will receive discount for travel on mountain trains and cable cars with your Pass.

Hope this helps!!!

Kind Regards,
