Eurail France - Switzerland Pass

I am reaching Grenoble via Lyon,France on 21st November with my wife and two kids(1 year and 3.5 year). I am planning a leisure trip to Interlaken, Switzerland on 22nd November from Grenoble. Will be staying in Interlaken for 3 days and including travel day and during these days we will be travelling to Jungfrau, Lautenbrunen and Engelberg. On 25th November, we will move back to Grenoble. Also, we are planning to go to Geneva from Grenoble for one day around first week of December.

A) Can you please recommend the pass that suits us the best? Is it Eurail France-Switzerland Pass or Swiss Pass?

B) Do we need to buy any other ticket apart from pass?

C) What kind of trains we can travel with the pass?

D) Can we buy online as a e-pass?

Hello Faizan,

Thanks for your question.

1) I would suggest that you purchase the Swiss Travel Pass and for the French sectors, you could purchase point to point tickets. This being as most of your travel is within Switzerland.

The Swiss Travel Pass would give you the following benefits:

Children below 16 years are free if accompanied by the at least one parent having a Swiss Pass. We issue a Swiss family card for children.

With a Swiss Travel Pass you can travel free within Switzerland on the STS (Swiss Travel System) network on trains, buses and boats. Also with a Swiss Pass you would get discounts on mountain excursions within Switzerland. These discounts can only be availed locally by showing your Swiss Pass to the ticketing office in Switzerland.

With a Swiss Travel Pass you can travel free on intercity trains within Switzerland.

2) You would have to make seat reservations for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass.

3) All the regional trains you need not reserve seat, you would just need to board the train with a valid pass. For cable car, cog-wheel, scenic trains, you would need to reserve seat which would have to be done locally.

4) Unfortunately the Swiss Travel Pass only has paper ticket option. Once the pass is purchased on our website, you would receive it within 8 working days. We could also ship the pass to a destination in Europe as long as you give us the correct shipping address.

To purchase the Swiss Travel Pass click “Here”.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Anthony, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
