Cost of bicycle as excess baggage.

How much does it cost to take a boxed bicycle in a baggage car on the train from London to Lyon? This will NOT fit in an overhead luggage rack.

Hello Emma,

Thanks for the question.

As your travel from London to Lyon is via Eurostar and TGV trains, Bicycle is allowed.

Eurostar train - Fold-up bicycles less than 85cm can be stored on any Eurostar service in a bike bag. Bicycles measuring more than 85cm that do not fold need to be dismantled by traveler, stored in a bike box provided and must be transported as registered luggage.

TGV train - Bicycle can be carried on TGV train as hand luggage if they are folded or dismantled and placed in a cycle bag measuring no more than 120 x 90cm.

You will need to check the fares locally at the train station subject to availability.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Leora, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
