Can you guys advise the best ticket for France/Switzerland/Germany + Italy travel for my dates

I am in Europe next month and I'd like advice on whether I should buy point-to-point train tickets for my specific itinerary or a rail pass. Below are the fares on the saver / special tickets. Not sure if there is an additional reservation fee for seating or the night train. From Zermatt to St Moritz I plan to use local rail, not the Glacier Express (as you cant open windows on the Glacier Express to take pictures).

Please can you advise. My itinerary (using first class where possible) comes to 586 euros (R8250)

Hello Zaid,

Thanks for your question.

As you are travelling extensively, I suggest that you purchase a Eurail Select Pass 4 Countries covering Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy.

Passes can be purchase 6 months in advance.

With a this Pass you can avail of unlimited travel on the national rail networks of the countries covered by your pass.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains. Reservations can only be done 3 months in advance for your journeys.

With a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares). The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "book a compulsory seat reservation when using your rail pass & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

As fares are dynamic and subject to change, I cannot give fare quotations. I request you to check directly on our website.

You can also refer to our travel magazine Connexion for sample itineraries.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website

Hope this helps.

Hi Aamir. Thanks for the feedback. Can I get an EU Rail select pass being a non-resident of EU (I am South African)?

Hello Zaid,

Thanks for your comment.

People with a permanent residence (for more than 6 months) outside of Europe, the United Kingdom, Turkey, the Russian Federation are eligible to purchase or use the Eurail Pass.

Hope this helps.
