Brig to Venice on Eurocity 37 -- more than 2 months in advance

Hi,

I am going from Grindelwald to Venice on Aug 14,2015. I'd like to avoid Milan since other people have mentioned that it's quite busy. I am going to buy the Swiss Travel Pass so ideally I want to reserve seats from Brig but pay only for the train journey in Italy (Domodossola to Venice).

Here's the problem that I have. I tried to book this ticket (from Brig to Venezia S Lucia) on raileurope.com but its not able to pull the trains for this date. Then I tried trenitalia.com, it shows the trains but is charging me for the full fair, I don't see any option to say "I have Swiss Travel Pass".

I doubt that all the seats on Eurocity 37 are booked for Aug 14th already since its about 2 months out. Should I wait or am I doing something wrong? All the help appreciated!

Hello Trunal,

Thanks for your question.

There are regular direct trains connecting Brig to Domodossola but you would have to book this sector locally. You would receive pass holder fares for this journey with the Swiss Travel Pass which again you would have to avail locally.

From Domodossola to Venice you can then board the Eurocity train for which you would have to purchase separate point to point ticket.

So for this booking you would have to book Domodossola to Venice and not from Brig.

Also, if you hold on for a few days there are direct Cisalpino trains plying from Brig to Venice.

To purchase the Swiss Travel Pass click “Here”.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations“ & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Thanks a lot Anthony!

A few follow up questions :

1. How is this different or better than booking via sbb.ch directly from Brig to Venice?

2. Do the Cisalpino have better frequency than the EU37 (looks like only 1 per day)

3. How many days should I wait for the Cisalpino schedule to show up?

Thanks again!

Hello Trunal,

Thanks for your reply.

1) Unfortunately I cannot comment on another website.

2) From Brig to Venice, there are a couple of trains everyday which you can check on our website by entering a closer date.

3) Since you are traveling in August, I would suggest you wait for a week or so and then try booking the Cisalpino from your travel from Brig to Venice.

Hope this helps!!!

Regards,
