Austria - Switzerland

Hi, I will need your advise if purchasing the Eurail Austria - Switzerland Pass is perfect for my upcoming trip in December 2015? Below is how my itinerary;

  • 3 nights at Vienna from Zurich
  • 4 nights at Salzburg from Vienna
  • 1 night at Innsbruck from Salzburg
  • 4 nights at Lucerne from Innsbruck
  • 2 nights at Zurich from Lucerne
I have problem when getting the timetable and making reservation for Innsbruck to Lucerne, whereas, rates and timetable does appear when I insert this itinerary purchasing the tickets separately. Do let me know what is the issue here? Unlikely due to the tickets are sold out.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you.

Best regards,

Lynette

Hello Lynette,

Thanks for your question.

As per your extensive travel, I would suggest you to purchase Eurail Austria Switzerland Pass. With a Eurail Austria Switzerland you can avail of unlimited travel on the national rail networks of the countries covered by the pass.

With Eurail Austria Switzerland you can travel free on the regional and intercity trains.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains.

With a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares).

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations“ & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

However as the winter schedule change happens during the second week of December, trains for travel past that week are not yet loaded.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Hello Cijie,

I would also like to check what is the difference between Eurail Global Pass & Eurail Austria Switzerland?

Basically, I need a pass that covers 14/15 days. Eurail Austria Swtizerland Pass maximum comes with 11 days within 2 months with 1 FREE DAY (Promotion Period) and Eurail Global Pass covers 15 days continuously (Gives the flexibility of choice to choose from and there is a promotion too), which eventually Eurail Global Pass after discount is cheaper.

I would also like to find out the benefits for both pass seems the same, please correct me if I am wrong and will appreciate if you can highlight to me if there is anything important I am missing?

Do give me the best recommendations please.

Hear from you soon.

Thank you.

Warm regards,

Lynette

Hello Lynette,

Thank you for your comment

Eurail Global pass allows passengers to visit 28 countries within 2 months. You can take as many trains as you like and there is no limit on the distance you can travel within a travel day.

The Eurail Austria-Switzerland Pass would cover all regional and national trains within the two countries. This pass wouldn’t cover local transport within a city but would cover intercity train travel.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass.

In order to book tickets, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations“ & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Hope this helps!!!
