About Eurail Pass

  • Hello, I am travelling to netherlands, belgium, germany, austria, czech republic and hungary in august and i have some queries about the eurail pass.

1) For the Eurail pass, if i were to travel within Germany itself (lets say from dusseldorf to cologne), is it counted as one trip? because i read on the benefits of Eurail pass for Germany that it is free of charge to travel on S-bahn trains from different cities in Germany.

2) If i am travelling from dusseldorf to berlin, isit inclusive in the Eurail? or do i have to purchase a separate ticket for this trip.

3) Does the Eurail pass cover trips internally in a country? (e.g Salzburg to vienna)

Thank you.

Hello Nicolette,

Thanks for your question.

May I know all the cities you wish to travel to along with your travel date so that I can assist you better.

If you wish to purchase Eurail Pass with Germany included, you can travel on all the trains except Night trains and ICE Sprinter train which require compulsory seat reservations.

Validity in Eurail Pass is not counted on the number of trips you take. A travel day lasts from 12:00 am to 23:59 pm during which you can take as many trips as you wish. As Dusseldorf to Berlin is via ICE train, you can travel with your Pass.

As Salzburg to Vienna is via Railjet train, it is a high speed train and hence you will need to purchase seat reservations with a Pass.

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

Awaiting your reply!!!

Best Regards,

Hello Nicolette,

Thanks for your reply.

As per your Itinerary it is best to purchase Eurail Select Pass 4 countries with Austria - Benelux - Germany - Hungary.

To purchase the Pass click "Here".

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass. With a Pass you can travel on regional/intercity trains within a country.

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,
