A Rail Pass or separate bookings?

My partner and I are travelling in France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany in September and October this year.

Dates will encompass 27th September to 13th October. Our travel dates within this time are fixed.

Our loose plans are Paris to Normandy, Normandy to Gent, 1 or 2 Day trips within Belgium (Gent to Antwerp, Brugge or Brussels), Gent to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Berlin, Day trip Berlin to Leizpig.

We may also travel to Munich from Berlin.

So we are looking at around 7 days of train travel out of cities (the rest will be spent with the cities/towns).

Is a rail pass best for this trip or individual tickets - a rough tally up using train prices from May 2017 (since Sept is too far away) result in slightly lower $$ in comparison to a rail pass - plus I know there is also the seat reservations to consider for some of these trains. Do you recommend a pass or should we book separately?

Thanks

Hello Elizabeth,

Thanks for the question.

As per your travel cities it is best to purchase pass. However you can compare with point to point ticket and purchase any as per your convenience. You can purchase the Eurail 3 country Pass for France-Benelux-Germany. The pass will allow you to travel on regional and domestic trains within the countries.

To purchase the pass click "Here".

Keep in mind that seat reservations would be mandatory for all High-Speed, Night, Scenic and Border Crossing trains. But, you will avail pass holder/discounted fares for these journeys with the pass.

In order to book seat reservations, please visit our website.

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on “Seat Reservations” & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

For point to point tickets you can follow the below procedure:

In order to book tickets, please visit our website.

You would need to feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares. You need to select the fare which is preferable to you and then add it to Cart. Once added, you need to mention the names of the passengers to make the payment on the next page.

Hope this helps!!!

Best Regards,

Amar, Rail Europe Travel Expert.
