Hello Elizabeth,

Thanks for your question.

Your travel will be as follows –

- Barcelona to San Sebastian – Bookable on the website.

- San Sebastian to Bilbao - Book locally.

- Bilbao to Burgos - Bookable on the website.

- Burgos to Salamanca - Bookable on the website.

- Salamanca to Madrid – Bookable on the website.

- Madrid to CordobaAVE Train

- Cordoba to Antequera – AVE Train

- Antequera to Granada – Bookable on the website.

- Granada to Seville – Bookable on the website.

- Seville to Madrid – AVE Train

As you are traveling extensively, I suggest you buy Renfe Spain Pass.

Renfe Spain Pass is a pass that allows non-residents in Spain to travel around the country

Important: The Renfe Spain Pass alone does not allow traveling on a train. Renfe Spain Pass holders can book reservation tickets for free

The Renfe Spain Pass is valid for AVE, Long Distance (except night trains) and Medium Distance services. The pass is not valid on any international services

Further, the Renfe Spain Pass allows you to complete your journey by Commuter train (Regional Renfe train) provided that it connects with the place of origin or destination of your booking

Tickets can be purchased at station ticket offices, provided that the valid pass is presented at the time of purchase.

The Renfe Spain Pass is active for 6 months from the day of purchase and then valid for 1 month (30 days) as from the date on which it is first validated for a journey

Hope this helps!!!

I have since discovered that I am unable to pre-book my Renfe seats until I arrive in Spain..... This is going to severely compromise a holday which requires many train trips.

Hello Elizabeth,

Thanks for your reply.

If you wish you to purchase reservations prior to your depature, you may purchase a Eurail Spain Pass.

The Eurail Spain Pass is the most comprehensive way to explore Spain.

An Eurail Spain Pass is available in First and Second class, and this means that special fares can only be applied in First Class for adults and children, and in Second Class only for Youths.

With a Spain Pass you can avail of unlimited travel on the national rail networks of the countries covered by your pass.

Reservations are mandatory on high-speed trains, night trains, scenic trains and border crossing trains.

With a Pass the seat reservations will be offered at discounted fares (Pass holder fares).

The pass seats can be reserved by clicking on "Seat Reservations“ & feed in the Departure city and the Arrival city along with the travel date and preferred time & the number of passengers (Senior, adults, youth and children), and then click on “search tickets”. Once you do so, you would find the schedules along with the fares.

Please click on the “Fare Details” tab to view details regarding the type of fare, type of seat, whether a reservation is included or not and the After Sales Policy.

Hope this helps!!!

Unfortunately this advice comes too late as I had already, based on your previous advice purchased a Renfe ticket, which does not allow one to pre-book tickets until in Spain. An important detail that travelers should be forewarned of.
